Brazilian LGPD adds to the GDPR & CCPA

Important updates about the Brazilian LGPD

Earlier this year we shared with you how California passed their version of the European Consumer protection laws GDPR. Our friends at McNary Marketing broke down what we needed to know. in their pieces Will the GDPR impact Your Business and How GDPR can be a fresh start to marketing.

As of August 16, 2020 Brazil has released the Brazilian LGPD (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados) a new data privacy law that will apply to businesses (both inside and outside Brazil) that process the personal data of users located in Brazil.

Organizations like Google and Mailchimp are already updating their processes and terms to address the specific protections outlined in LGPD. You may need to update your terms as well. You can see what Google has outlined here in their LGPD Controller and Processor Addenda. If you are using Google Ads, not to worry, Google offers product controls that you can utilize as part of the LGPD compliance strategy.

As we discussed before, we suggest complying with the privacy and data rights of all these agencies. We anticipate this will continue to be something for businesses to address and will be something that is considered standard business practice.

We are here to help you on your journey. Please reach out if you have any concerns or questions.
