who we are
Epiphany is a woman-owned business established in January 2000 by Julie A. Beem, MBA, and Christa A. Nelson, MBA, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Epiphany Group initially provided full-service marketing to professional service firms such as architects, engineers, surveyors, and general contractors. They quickly grew and expanded services to Iowa when one of the founding owners, Christa, moved back home to Cedar Rapids in 2002.
In 2008, the company pivoted when the epic flood hit their Iowa location, and Julie needed to focus on the growing needs of her adopted daughter. Christa continued as a sole proprietor, collaborating with many talented firms across the country. During this time, she expanded her expertise to include nonprofits, attorneys, financial planners, individuals, internet service providers, and retail companies. This expansion necessitated collaboration with various marketing professionals as client needs grew.
Epiphany was re-founded in 2018, providing strategic and tactical marketing services to businesses and nonprofits, including strategic planning, fund/friend-raising, brand identity, storytelling, digital marketing, web design, social media, media relations, and influencer marketing.
The growing agency operated out of Marion Co-Working and MERGE in Iowa City. In 2020, COVID-19 prompted a shift to full-time remote work. Supporting others in growing their businesses has always been part of our DNA, and this period was perfect for helping our team members grow their own companies. The Spark Team Collaboration was born, allowing each SME to establish their own business while collaborating on client projects. This streamlined our approach to payroll and expenditures allowing us to keep costs down for our clients in such challenging times.
In 2024, Epiphany shifted again from being all things to all people and the central billing hub for all marketing services to becoming a team builder and collaboration leader. Epiphany began to hand off all the services Christa had been personally providing to others, allowing her to focus on the services that best fit her skill set and passion: strategic planning, serving as a fractional CMO, and team development, training, and building.
